Today's Prayer Note from The Navigators:

Motivating Others
Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. - 1 Thessalonians 4:1
One of the most difficult tasks of any leader is motivating others. How does the leader stimulate people to love and good works? In 1 Chronicles 28 and 29, we are given a clue. With his eye of faith and vision, in his final days as king, David saw the magnitude of the task Solomon would face when he took over the throne of Israel. Solomon would need the dedicated help of hundreds of people to build the temple. He would need materials of all kinds, and he would need a lot of money. So David assembled all the representatives of the people and challenged them to give themselves unreservedly to the task before them. He followed Moses' example and reminded the people that God had chosen Solomon to do this job, so to back Solomon was to fulfill the will of God. He told them he had given out of his personal treasures of gold and silver in abundance, then said, "Now, who is willing to consecrate himself today to the Lord?" (1 Chronicles 29:5). God used David's personal example and his words of challenge to fire the people up, and the people offered willingly and gave in abundance. These same principles apply today. Do you want your kids, your family, to love the Lord...to pray...to study the Scriptures? Then challenge them with biblical principles, and set the example in your own life. God will use it for His glory. Prayer Lord, may I be an example of a good steward. Amen. To Ponder If we manifest costly, self-sacrificial love within our families, it will have a spiritual impact upon the world. | |
