Mirroring God's Example
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. - Ephesians 4:32
David had such a diverse life and ministry. He was a shepherd, a musician, a composer, a military hero, and a king. And that's not all. He kept an eye on the future. Whenever he conquered a foe, he took all the bounty and tribute, and dedicated it to the Lord. Why? His eye was on the temple that his son would build. David secured two blessings for Israel--he won peace in the land, giving Solomon time to build the temple, and he dedicated an unbelievable amount of wealth, so that Solomon might have the resources to do the job right.
Today's portion of Scripture reveals yet another side of David. He asked, "Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?" With all David has on his mind, still he desires to show concern for the household of Saul.
When David learned there was one person, he invited him to the palace and made provision for his needs. The record states, "When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor." David received him with all kindness and spoke to him by name.
Like David, perhaps you can take the initiative to show compassion to someone in need.
Prayer
Lord, make me aware today that I represent You in my kindness shown to others. Amen.
